As of the 2021 census, Surrey has about 195,000 homes, but to meet future demand, nearly 169,221 new homes are needed by 2043, an 87% increase. This includes various types of housing to address extreme core housing needs, homelessness, suppressed household formation, and population growth. Over the next five years, 53,111 new homes are required. Surrey's population is projected to grow significantly, becoming BC's most populated city by 2029. The city plans to focus growth around Surrey City Centre and along future SkyTrain routes.
